Home City Ice services accounts in 12 states, but we are always open to expanding into near-by states.
The Home City Ice freezing process cascades water over vertical, stainless steel plates that are charged with refrigeration. As the water flows over the plates, ice begins to form and will continue to freeze from the "inside out" until the desired thickness is achieved.
When you make ice at home, the water sits idle or stagnant in trays waiting to freeze. The "pure" water will freeze first on the outside pushing suspended solids and debris into the middle of the cube where they will eventually be trapped by the water freezing around them. The cloud is the result of these "suspended solids" and foreign debris being trapped in the middle of the cube. That is why homemade ice is clear on the outside and cloudy on the inside. Home City Ice's unique freezing process eliminates the "clouds" from the ice. Just pure water being frozen.
The laws of nature dictate the pure water freezes at 32 degrees and water containing suspended solids, debris or other chemical makeup will have a lower freezing point. Home City Ice freezes water while it is in motion allowing for the pure water to freeze first. At the end of the freezing process the pure water has been made into ice and the left over "heavy" water is removed and used elsewhere in the refrigeration process. Freezing water in motion allows Home City Ice to make pure, sanitary food grade product.
All of our production facilities have product samples tested by an independent third party laboratory to ensure a pure product.
Home City Ice is a member of the International Packaged Ice Association (IPIA) that mandates every Home City Ice production facility is inspected and certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).

Did you know that water is the only known substance where the solid state (ice) will float in the liquid state (water)?

Did you know that it takes 1 calorie of energy to reduce one gram of water one degree, but it takes 38x that amount of energy to turn one gram of water into one gram of ice?

Our unique production methods, the location of our distribution points, and our state of the art routing technologies allow HCI to have one of the smallest carbon footprints per unit in the packaged ice industry.

Our unique freezing process creates ice that is more pure than the water it's made from. It's called "natural filtration".

The Sedler family started Home City Ice in 1924. Over this history, Home City Ice has successfully become the largest family owned and operated packaged ice company in the nation.
